Since 2013, On Easter Sunday a special fun run takes place here in Waterford which raises money for The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation Crumlin.

At our core is the belief that every sick child deserves every chance.

As a parent, All you can ever want for your kids growing up is that they have the best possible chance of having the life they deserve and this research in conjunction with our Lady’s Hospital gives children the best possible chance. In fact, my oldest son needed the services of this hospital a few years ago and I cannot commend the place highly enough for time we spent there.

The Bunny-Run was initially set up by two local marathon enthusiasts, (one of whom is lucky enough to be my brother in law) and was designed for families of all ages and abilities. I use the word run here, but I usually walk it because it is harder than you think to run in fancy dress, although it is a chip timed race for those that want a bit of competition.

On the day itself, children and big children like myself will be greeted with free chocolate eggs, face painting and bouncy castles. Everybody is encouraged to dress up and after the race there is a free BBQ. The effort and dedication that both Trevor and Jason put into this event each year is inspiring and it is great to have this event on our doorstep.

While every year, we, or more accurately, jean would help out in any way she could, such as dressing up as the bunny, this year we wanted to try and do a little bit extra and raise funds for this great cause. In one of our monthly informal business meetings over breakfast with the “B’s”, we came up with an idea of holding a coffee morning in our Café. Jean and her sister Lisa took full control and organized the whole day and did an amazing job.

We were only open two hours and managed to raise in excess of €1400. We were blown away by the support we received, from local business sponsoring us coffee, prizes and delicious cakes, to friends baking yummy treats and some even buying cakes from their own pocket  to sell. It was an incredible turnout and we were delighted to be able do a little bit to help Jason and Trevor raise as much as possible for crumlin and we are looking forward to a fantastic family day out on Easter Sunday.
